Offering a billet to an overseas social worker was a wonderful way to meet a person from

another country (Finland) and experience the culture. I personally find it very enriching

and would do it again without hesitation. I would also encourage others who may be

interested to give it a try.”

How to Get Involved?

We will be hosting our next programme in Adelaide, 7 October – 4 November 2010.  There will be 4-6 participants from around the world.  The programme will consist of an orientation, host family living, and visits to agencies.  Interest areas of our participants will be wide and varied, and may include: working with youth/children, primary health care/community health, economic development, social work education, alcohol and drug addiction, and community capacity building/community development.  All participants are required to have a good command of the English language.

As a Field Placement Agency

Becoming a field placement agency is an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with overseas social workers and related professionals and share practice field knowledge and skills.

Participants bring an enthusiasm to share their experience with you and your staff. They leave with a unique perspective of your methods and approaches with diverse and different communities that provide the basis for improving professional practice.

We are calling for expressions of interest from agencies and schools of social work in the Adelaide metropolitan area, able to offer participants opportunities to visit them, talk with other social workers / community workers, and observe/interact with clients as appropriate.  Visits may be as short as a few hours to a few days, depending on what is manageable for the agency.

As a Host Family

Being a host family is a fascinating way of getting to know somebody from another part of the world. Sharing cultural differences and providing a home away from home help to forge lasting friendships. Host families are asked to provide room and board for 1-3 weeks. If you are interested in becoming involved with CIF Australia as a host family, please email us for more information.

We would appreciate any offers of support by families to host participants, or to be included in social and professional activities. You can enjoy the benefit of meeting a person from another culture and sharing the Australian way of live. You will be well supported before and during the program. Arrangements can be flexible.

As a Member

We are always looking for new members. Annual membership is $40 per year (July to June.)

If you would like to be involved with the Orientation program in and around Adelaide, or to be included in social and professional activities, we would like to hear from you.
